My solution was to go to the anaconda archive page: and download the second newest version, i.e. I am using Anaconda 2 with Python 2.7.14 conda-build 3.4.1 conda 4.4.10 I also tried the same with conda-build 3.0.

This server had an earlier version of CentOS installed with no issues that I can recall, I was able to boot DBAN iso beforehand to clean the server up, and I am out of clues as to what I am missing here. My guess is that the current version for Windows is unstable. Is there a reason why a github install hangs on windows 10 yet succeeds on Linux I am trying to build a new conda install package for MIST and able to do it on linux, yet it hangs on Windows 10 on a relatively fast machine. Sadly, I usually get stuck in a conda install X or a pip install Y loop until everything breaks and then I have to restart from scratch by creating a fresh. I choose the install option, I get the console screen where startup begins, showing at the beginning of the lines and the several startup messages, but it either hangs at one of the above options, or it simply stalls with a black screen and does not follow through to the installer. EDIT: weirdly, trying to reinstall conda in another directory (through the Miniconda3-latest-Linux-x8664.sh install script) hangs at the exact same step (Collecting package metadata. Then you can try to run the pip install manually and solve the issues before running conda env create. a web search returns this issue as a result if you search for 'conda stuck on installing pip dependencies' so you at least know where to look. The initial welcome screen where I can choose the install option appears, but not the following screen. A bit more info: I tried running it in pdb, and then Ctrl-C’ing to see where exactly it hangs, but it is totally unresponsive to Ctrl-C. conda notices the user prompt and either gives a warning, or passes the prompt on to the user. I have tried CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-1708 and CentOS-7-x86_64-NetInstall-1708, I have tried normal install, check disk and install, and basic install, but I am not able to get through to the installer with any of the options or ISOs. Not a great introduction to the world of Python for them.
